Zombie Games (Marble)

At this day in age, there has been a lot of zombie games, some good, some bad. Some of my favorites included Left 4 Dead 1 &2, Dead Island, and Black Ops 1 & 2 zombies modes. These aren't the only zombies games, but there are some of the best. Instead of writing a review for some of these games (with the exception of possibly Black Ops 2), read the short paragraphs below for my thoughts.

Left 4 Dead 1 & 2:

These games are original. They've been out specifically for Xbox and on the PC for a while now. Yet they still remain at the top in zombie games. It might be the special infected that provide a challenge and a different type of zombie. It might be the way the separate campaigns are laid out and the different environment they give you to play through them. It might be (I'll stop saying that eventually) the idea of working together to survive the special infected and to protect yourself from the common horde. All these reasons are great, the campaigns are simple, a lot of fun, and can be pretty quick or pretty fun. There are additional modes where a team of survivors faces off against a team of special infected as well as the regular horde. The controls while playing the special infected are simple and work well with each of the characters. The last mode besides random special game modes that change every week is survival which was added to Left 4 Dead 1 and was brought back in 2. This is a real challenge trying to work solo. It's amazing how difficult it can be when you screw up just once, and the real way of winning a medal has to be teamwork, it's nearly impossible solo.

Dead Island:

A lot of critics didn't like this game too much. They thought there was too much backtracking, no guns until mid game, so many turned away from this game. I disagree completely. I thought this game was great, and more realistic than some other zombie games. Yes there weren't guns til mid game and often times you don't have much ammo, but why would a random football star just have a gun loaded with ammo. And even then every other person in the hotel has ammo for you to take? No, the melee weapons in this game work great. You have to be careful not to damage them too much, you find mods to build other weapons, and sometimes you get lucky and can buy some ammo or kill a robber for his gun. The multiplayer is set up so the other characters won't be in your game unless a friend is playing them. When playing with 4 friends charging through a trashed town, this game is amazing. I had a blast blowing through zombies, taking down a special infected, and screwing around with an overpowered baseball bat. The zombies in the game also help fit the image of a scary taken over island. Oftentimes I found myself staying back and screwing around instead of heading to the mission in fear of the freaking zombies that run at you (I mean just full out book it), as well as special infected and risking my weapons. I can't wait for the second game, Dead Island 1 was great.

Black Ops 1 & 2 Zombies game modes:

This isn't a standalone game. The Black Ops zombies stories will probably never be a lone game, but they certainly could be (note I didn't put WoW cause those maps are in Black Ops 1). The back story to these levels is pretty layered and makes the mode even more interesting. But if you're not into that, you can ignore the story and simply survive. That's all any of the zombies modes are, just survival. The new Tranzit, Grief, and Turned, all they are are (whoa double are) just simply survival modes, just with different approaches. The maps are built in a variety of ways, each one posses new challenges and different environments. Teamwork can come into play if you choose to join with friends, but a solo run is built for a solo run. When playing cooperatively on these maps, it's best to stick together because more zombies come, it's easier to get down, and it is simply just more fun to scream at your friend when things get pretty tight. The zombie maps will sometimes have special rounds with crawlers or hellhounds (zombie dogs), but typically there are just simple zombies that will get faster as the rounds progress. The mystery box, the perks, the wall weapons, and the magic drops are also different and makes this game more exciting. The mystery box could give you an lmg, or a rocket launcher (if you didn't know that is not good). The perks will give you special boosts until you get down and/or die. The wall weapons are a safe bet because you can buy cheap ammo for them, and the magic drops are random boosts that will refill your ammo completely or sometimes just kill every zombie on the map. All these things, plus the pack-a-punch can bring some excitement to zombies, and if you want to see what I'm talking about, try this mode out.

Those were my thoughts on zombies games, I'll try to do multiplayer in games, a Dead Space 3 review, and some other reviews as well as some posts from Magrum.
