Halo 4 had a short campaign, at least with respect to past Halo games. Yes there was a lot of replay-ability, but few levels weren't always super long like past games of this series. The multiplayer for this game is great, and if you want to hear the rest of it, look back for my Halo 4 review. As of right now though, all episodes of the series Spartan Ops have been released, and here is the full review.
Is it worth it playing through all the episodes? Is it a bunch of goofy missions that I can pass by for the multiplayer? Absolutely not. These missions are the second campaign of Halo 4. Yes you don't play as Master Chief, nor is he relevant at all with the exception of a later reference. But these missions are important to the story of the Halo universe, and they really bring more enjoyable gameplay. Yes there are definitely some cheesy lines here, and your objective may sometimes be repetitive, seeming how you have to play over each of the maps 2 to 4 times throughout the entire season, but game is great.
Story wise, you should just watch the opening cinematics, and let me tell you that they are amazing. I would have a tough time telling the difference between this and a movie. The missions just link the gaps between the different clips, that being said if you really don't want to play the missions, watch the movies, but I strongly suggest you play these missions, they are a lot of fun.
The gameplay is just normal spartan gameplay, only you choose what you start with from your multiplayer loadouts. You can play each mission up to four people, and the spawning is different from the campaign. Even on solo, if you die, you will just spawn a couple hundred feet from the battle and about 15 seconds of gearing up just puts you right back where you are. With that being said you don't really have to worry so much about difficulty unless you go for a no death run. Even on legendary, just spawn in, and pick people off, run out of ammo, run in, and respawn. The rest is normal campaign like gameplay where missions unfold, and from time to time you get vehicles.
This was a great edition to Halo 4. It kept the story going, and made for a longer lasting enjoyable experience. Was the ending of the Ops satisfying? Yes, it really through the story for a couple turns and is setting up the universe for Halo 5. Check back for the review on the recent DLC.
